Sports with a Komondor

A common misconception I see is people believing the Komondor to be a lazy dog. They are not. While they may be happy to rest in the house part of the time, they do require to be outdoors in a space large enough for them to really stretch their legs, if you yourself do not have land it is essential you find somewhere for your dog to exercise. While a Komondor can be taught to recall, it must not be forgotton that he is, in his own right, still a guardian dog who will protect you against anything he perceives as a threat. I recommend that when in public, you keep your dog on a long line lead (Not a Flexi lead) to keep control.

Some of the sports we have in the past and still do take part in with our komondors is Conformation, Agility, Canicross, Bikejor and Rally. On the side we enjoy to practice our balance work, especially when we are trying to keep the coat clean for a dog show! All our komondors have also proven to enjoy swimming and a few will even join in our games with the flirtpole.

Which Sports?

While the list at recommended sports for the Komondor may not be as broad as it is for the Mudi or most other breeds, individual dogs may enjoy different sports. We include balance work here as while it is not a sport in itself we have found in our case that the Komondors enjoy it! There are also a few other activity suggestions that our own dogs have proven to have enjoyed.

Sports with a Mudi

The Mudi really is, in our opinion one of the ultimate sports dog. Their speed, endurance and wit makes them suitable for most if not all activities, they work closely with their handlers and are an ideal one person dog. They have proven themselves in all areas of the dog world, from Agility to IPO, Dock Diving to competitive Obedience, not only do they perform well but on many occasions they come out on top. Mudi have proven themselves very useful in Search and Rescue operations, and many also continue to practice herding.
